Phil, as for info resources and guides you can contact www.fundaeco.org.gt, they are focused on studying the flora and fauna and natural reserves, also www.defensores.org.gt, they travel a lot, many experts in their field. You can also contact the local zoo, they have an extensive documentation on local flora and fauna, they are very collaborative. There is a book (I don't remember the title) but I had it on my hands... its a special edition about flora and fauna of Guatemala, you can surely find it at the local zoo library.
