Lake Amatitlán view
Published January 23rd, 2007 in You just can't believe its true.
If you live in Guatemala, you just can’t believe this is Amatitlán.
Lake Amatitlán used to be almost like Lake Atitlán they say, but pollution, industry and the urbanization around has damaged the surroundings and this blue mirror.
Efforts have been made to help the lake and its getting better gradually. The people over there really care and sadly, it is mostly the visitors and the industry who damage the whole thing.
This is not the traditional view from the lake. This is in fact, the view almost from the other side. Wanna try? Patience then…
Follow the road from the Calderas Lagoon at Pacaya and you will end up in a not pavemented road that ends right where I took this picture. After this you will reach the lake itself. Smooth huh?
Go tell a friend, and yes, take a closer look: It is Amatitlán. So, next time somebody invites you there, GO.
Things change for good ya know?

I was a student teacher in music at the Colegio Americano is Guatelmala City. In addition to climbing Volcan de Pacaya I traveled with a group of teacher from the school to Lake Amatitlan and we sat around singing madrigals with a view of this beautiful lake. Do I remember corrrectly, are there 12 volcanoes around the lake, each named after an apostle?
HI
I left a couple of comments last week about climbing Pacaya and Amatitlan. They are not listed in the comments. Why?
Hi Duane, no, there are only 3 volcanoes around Atitlán: Tolimán, San Pedro and Atitlán. There is a lot of saying about 12 towns around the lake with the names of the apostles but is not true I have to say. There are villages but with SOME names only.
And sorry, I was away so I couldn’t review the comments on the blog. Thanks for stopping by.
